You continue working. You do not hear Tom or Becca talking for the remainder of the night. You finish up your work but don’t think it is a good idea to leave them alone. You decide not to leave until they do.
You all walk out together and go to your separate cars. You don’t pull out of the parking lot until you see that Becca has safely left. Even though you were not confident enough to intervene and help Becca out of the uncomfortable situation, you decide to speak to your supervisor tomorrow and let them know about the conversations that you overheard tonight.
Intently listening to make sure Becca was okay, waiting to leave until Becca did, staying in the parking lot until Becca left, and reporting the incident to your supervisor are all forms of being an Active Bystander.
